Hi, my name is Elazar. I am writing this to you using my eyes, since that is the only part of my body that I can move. I was born seemingly healthy and all tests were normal, but when I was three months old I was diagnosed with a rare degenerative disease that paralyzed my entire body. So while I feel, I think, and imagine like every other kid, I’m not able to move around or express myself. My feelings, desires, and dreams are locked within me, trapped.
Fortunately, I have a special computer that allows me to type using my eyes. (You can see in the video I made for you!) At school I use a motorized chair which I control with my eyes. This gives me a tiny bit of independence so I can ‘move around’ by myself, which I love. But here is the problem: our house can’t accommodate my chair, so at home I’m totally trapped.
I’m 11 years old, and I can’t do anything myself.
- I can’t eat.
- I can’t move.
- I can’t take care of myself…
- I can’t even speak.
- I’m basically trapped. Inside my body.
I’m alive, I’m breathing. I can think, and I can feel *everything*. But I can’t express it – only through my eyes.
I have one wish. There is only one dream I can really fulfill. I know that everything else will remain just dreams. My only wish is to be able to move around my house.
My dreams are simple and small:
- I know I’ll never kick a ball, but I dream of going to sit near my sister while she dances.
- I know I’ll never enjoy a Shabbos meal, but I dream of keeping my mother company in the kitchen while she cooks.
- I know I’ll never hug my parents, but I dream of sitting by the table to learn with my father.
I just want to be able to move independently at home in my special chair. We desperately need $300,000 so we can make our home wheelchair accessible and make my dream come true. This is my only wish, but I badly need your help.
Please set me free. Please help me join my family.
With your help, my life will change. I will be able to use my chair at home and move around my house – this will be my dream come true.
Thank you so much for helping me!!
